Cesar Milan Pros and Cons

cesarmillan606

Cesar Millan is the most well known dog behaviourist in the country today. He is beloved by millions and revered as the Dr. Phil of the dog world. There is however a large amount of dog enthusiasts and experts that believe that Cesar’s dog training techniques are out of date and inhumane. I really enjoy Cesar’s show “The Dog Whisperer” and have seen him do amazing things with dogs time and time again. I have also came across a lot of people and articles that slam the dog whisperer and believe he is hurting the progress that dog behavior has made over the last fifty years.

Pros

  • Cesar is great with dogs. He has a natural ability that he established watching dogs work for his grandfather at their farm in Mexico.
  • The techniques used by Millan quickly establish behavior needed from problem dogs.
  • Millions of people are more attuned to the relationship between dog and owner because of Cesar’s television show The Dog Whisperer.
  • Exercise is always one of the first aspects of the owner/pet relationship that is examined. Under exercised pets is a surefire way to create problem behaviors.
  • Cesar helps give the pit bull much needed positive exposure to the public.

Cons

  • Dog experts and studies have discovered that positive-based training is a more reliable and humane way to train dogs
  • Training a dog as a pack leader will only create the desired effects when you are with your dog. The possibility of unwanted behaviors occurring when the dogs are without you is higher.
  • A lot of the training techniques used on the show can be dangerous for amateurs let alone professionals

Ceser millans methods is the best method to use. Its ment to show that its the owner not the dog that is the problem. con number two says.”Training a dog as a pack leader will only create the desired effects when you are with your dog. The possibility of unwanted behaviors occurring when the dogs are without you is higher.”
In order for the dog to me domesticated it must follow the pack leader and the rules and bounderies in the home and else where. u cannot possibly control any of the dogs behavir if you are bottom of the pack. like most children left alone they can do awhat tey want with out disciplin., only when the bounderies are in place by the parent”pack leader” will they ackowledge that some actions are not wanted.

The most reliable way to train a dog is through RESPECT. If you don’t have that you will not be able to get your dog’s attention or reliable behavior. Bribery is a bad, unreliable way to proceed and creates a weak link that may fail you at the most critical of times. Squeeky toys or food should not be in the equation. Dogs like to serve, they don’t need to be bribed.

Given lots of excersice, lots of problems are avoided. Dogs should RUN, not just walk. Most cases for healthy full grown dogs (rough guidline and may need to gradually work up to this level)-measure from floor to dog’s elbow (say 12 inches), divide by 2 (6 inches) and that is the minimum how many km your dog should be excersiced in a day (so, 6 km daily) in 2 portions; so 2 trips of 3 km each, preferably 1/2 of it done running or trotting and that will satisfy physical needs. Dogs need to RUN, not just walk. The need to smell scents should not be underestimated either as this stimulates/nourishes the brain/being of a dog. Our civilized world is out of tune with the true requirements of a dog.

Cesar knows what he is talking about and to be the authority figure/pack leader equals RESPECT.

To the people that think Cesar’s Way is inhumane. He only uses his hand in the shape of another dogs mouth to get the dog’s attention, bc in the wild dogs wouldn’t say “No” or “Dont do that” or give tell them “Good Job”. It’s the natural way of training from a pack point of view. This is the problem with everyone today, they are too scared to CORRECT a dog properly, that’s not inhumane it’s the same as spanking a child to get their attention, but no… That’s abuse you say. C’mon people get real, the reason why dogs have behavorial issues is bc no one wants to correct them & let’s them get away with what they want. It’s the owner’s lack of leadership & laziness, not the dog.
